In the modern periodic table, the elements are arranged in the order of their inreasing atomic number. In the modern periodic table there are seven horizontal rows called periods and eighteen vertical columns (1 to 18) called groups. The modern periodic table consist of elements that are arranged in the order of their increasing number atomic number.

The modern periodic table is based on the modern periodic law given by GJ Moseley. The law states that the properties of the element are periodic function of their atomic number.

The modern periodic table consists of 7 horizontal rows known as periodic and 18 vertical columns known as group.

The table also follows some trends along period and group such as atomic size, ionisation enthalpy etc.
