Sub-ordinate Courts in India refer to those courts which are next to High Courts in hierarchy. They are also the lowest in hierarchy of courts. The term not only covers one court but a number of courts e.g. Court of Judicial Magistrate, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Court of District Judge, Sessions Court, Family Court etc. These courts are very important because a case is instituted before these courts.

They are generally administered by the concerned High Court.
