Thanjavur or Tanjore is a city in Tamil Nadu. under the study of the scholars  thanjavur was derived from the word "tanjan" in hindu mythology.
thanjavur was first ruled by the cholas which served as the capital of the empire. Thanjavur acts as an important centre of south india as it is rich in
pantaings. art and architecture.Thanjavur is located in cauvery delta and it is an backbone of agriculture in tamil nadu. due to its importance in agriculture, it is also called as "RICE BOWL OF INDIA"

•Tanjavur was the capital of Cholas.

•besides the temple, there are places with mandapas or pavilions. Kings hold court in these mandapas issueing orders to there subordinates.

•There are also barracks for army.

•The town is bustling with markets selling grain,spices,cloth and jewellery.

•It gave employment for large number of people (Weavers,sultores,etc),thus

performing a center of opportunity.

•Water supply for towns comes from Wells and tanks.
