Short note on types of inertia
Answers
Answer:
Inertia of Rest- When the resistance is offered by the body to continue in the state of rest unless an external force acts on it.
Inertia of Direction- When the resistance is offered by the body to continue the motion in the same direction unless an external force acts on it.
Inertia: Inertia is the resistance of any physical object to any change in its position and state of motion. This includes changes to the object's speed, direction, or state of rest. Inertia is also defined as the tendency of objects to keep moving in a straight line at a constant velocity.
There are basically three types of inertia:
- Inertia of rest: The ability of the body to change by itself its state of rest is known as inertia of rest. Example: A person sitting in a car falls backwards, when the car suddenly starts. It is because of the lower portion in contact with the car comes in motion whereas the upper part tries to remain at rest due to inertia of rest.
- Inertia of motion: The ability of a body to change by itself its state of uniform motion is known as inertia of motion. Example: When an athlete runs a certain distance before taking a long jump because the velocity acquired by running is added to the time of jump, so that it can cover a long distance.
- Inertia of direction: The ability of a body to change by itself its direction of motion. Example: When a car moves around a curve the person sitting inside is thrown outwards in order to maintain his direction of motion due to inertia of direction.
