Kavi Samrat Upendra Bhanja was born in 1670 at a small village Kulada near Ghumusara town of Odisha. He was popularly known as Kabi Samrat and the people of Odisha considered as the emperor of poets. Kavi Samrat was belonging to a royal family he got married with the sister of the king of Nayagarh. Then he again married the daughter of the king of Banapur who she was his second wife. The king Dhananjaya Bhanja who he was the grandfather of Kabi Samrat and he wrote "Raghunath Bilash" which was popularly known as "The Ramayana". Kavi Samrat even belonging to royal family, He rendered his full service to the Odia language and Odia literature by writing many kavyas and poets in the language Odia.
