Significance of Shivaji’s Coronation ceremony

At the time of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s coronation, the Kings had to take permission from the Mughal emperors to hold the coronation ceremony. However, Shivaji Maharaj, who fought against the Mughal dynasty conducted the ceremony without any permission and broke the rules set by the emperors right from the beginning of his reign. After the grand coronation ceremony, Shivaji Maharaj went on a procession around his empire and was followed by his entire military, ministers and generals in this grand gesture. The procession was preceded by his royal flags borne aloft on two elephants.
