Corrosion:

  • Corrosion is a chemical reaction which involves the surface of a metal changing from an element to a compound.
  • Corrosion progressively weakens a metal and eventually destroys it.
  • Most metals corrode but different metals corrode at different rate.

Rancidity:

  • It is the natural process of decomposition of fats or oils by either hydrolysis or oxidation, or both.
  • The process of degradation converts fatty acid esters of oil into free fatty acids.
  • This gives rise to an unpleasant odour and taste in food.
