Organic compounds are usually extracted or manufactured from the natural resources.  They are plants, animals, and fungi.  The natural resources contain mixtures of a lot of organic compounds.

 

First we need to extract the needed compounds in a suitable way and separate the compounds and then purify the compounds.

A liquid is purified by evaporation by heating and then collecting the vapour through a pipe in to another container.  Then the vapour is cooled.  This total process is called  distillation

If the organic compound is in a solid mixture , then we use the procedure of recrystalization.  We find a solvent for the desired compound.  Then we put the mixture in it.  Then we filter out the other insoluble solid particles.  Now filtered liquid is cooled down slowly so that good crystals of the solid compounds are formed.   This process works only for those compounds which readily crystallize.
