After the renaissance and reformation movement in Europe, in India there was a need for change as well. Rajaram Mohan Roy came up as a great figure and he was known as a 'father of renaissance' in India.

He was a great scholar and a philanthropist. He worked all his life for the good of the society. He was also one of the earlier propagators of modern western education in India.

# The reform movements fostered feelings of self-reliance, self - respect, and patriotism in Indians.

#As a result of the reforms, the respect and status of a girl child was improved in the society up to a great extent.
