permanent settlement is a programme implemented in 1793 to collect taxes.

In this programme zamindars are elected by auctions and are allowed to collect taxes behalf of government. In return they get 10% of tax collected . In 1820s the government came to know that zamindars not loyal to people and government and are evicted from colllecting taxes. later a programme was introduced instead of this and called royatwari system. This is a succesful programme.
