short notes on root pressure
Answers
The effects of root pressure can be seen only during nights and in the early morning as the rate of evaporation is very low. The main contribution of the root pressure is to establish the continuous movements of the water molecules in the xylem which can be affected by the transpiration.
Root pressure
Root cells of plants are in contact with the nutrients like water and minerals in the soil. This water and minerals enters in the roots of plants due to the differences in their concentration. This causes the turgid of cells. This cells exerts pressure on their adjacent cells. This pressure is called as "Root pressure".
Root pressure is a important process occurs in plants for absorption of food and water from soil. Due to differences in the concentration of two adjacent cells, The root pressure is formed. Due to the root pressure, water and minerals are spread out all over the body.
Under the effect of the root pressure, Water and Minerals reach to the Xylem of the plants. And due to differences in the concentration level, water and minerals are continuously pushed forward. This forms the "Water column". This water column is sufficient to lift water and minerals to all parts of the plant body.
