Answer: Formerly called SHU-FU by the chinese ,kashi was a part of china during the reign of Han(206bc-ad220) and again under the Tang(618-907)

After about 6750AD when the Tang withdrew,it was ruled a long periods  by Turkic ,Uyguar ,Mongol and other central Asian empires before returning once more back to china to control in 1760.From 1865-1877 kashi was the capital an independent Muslim state established in the Tarim Pendi  by Yakbu Beg
