Answer:

The objective of environmental law is to preserve and protect the nature’s gifts from pollution. Further, the objective of environmental law is to protect the man’s fundamental rights of freedom, equality and adequate conditions of life in an environment of quality that permits a life of dignity and wellbeing.

The Constitution of India obligates the state as well as citizens to protect and improve the environment. The Constitution (Forty-Second Amendment) Act, 1976 and Article 51A(g) cites, “The requirement of the time is that we should be real citizens of the country striving towards excellence in all spheres of individual and collective activity including the protection of environment.”

The Role of Ministry of Environment and Forests:

The Department of Environment was created in November, 1981 and since then it has acted as a nodal agency for environmental protection. It has also been assigned administrative responsibility for pollution monitoring and regulation, as well as conservation of ecosystems and biosphere reserves.
