question 1 :-The Indian Muslims decided to defend the temporal powers of the Khalifa. Muhammad Ali and Shaukat Ali - two brothers, met Gandhiji who saw this as an opportunity to bring the two communities closer and start a unified national movement. This is how the Khilafat issue became a part of the Nationalist Movement of India.
