On the occasion of Children’s Day celebrations

PUDUCHERRY: It was a heady mix of patriotism and entertainment at the Children’s Day Celebrations held at the Bridges Learning Vidyalaya Dyslexic High School on Wednesday. Children of the school enthralled the audience with song, dance, speech and skit.

“Money will come and go, but education will stand in good stead all your life,” said S. Kamalini, Chairperson of the Puducherry Women’s Commission, who was chief guest at the event. Ms. Kamalini, recently appointed Nodal Officer for children’s issues in Puducherry, stressed on the importance of good education in her keynote address.

The children of Bridges Learning Vidyalaya put together a refreshingly unrehearsed and impromptu act, as part of the celebrations.

Apart from the invocation, the children delivered robust renditions of patriotic songs like Vande Mataram and Saare Jahaan Se Achcha.

A couple of children, dressed like Nehru spoke about the significance of Children’s Day. The thoughtful skit on child labour eradication was arguably the best act of the day. Involving many of the children, who hilariously prompted each other, the play provided an all-too-simple solution to the eradication of child labour in a factory, with the characteristic innocence and idealistic visions of children. The costumes were also commendable.
