That is not to say that joint families have become obsolete.The modem man prizes his freedom and individuality. A nuclear family suits him to aT. In a joint family his point of view has to contend with ten other points of view. The result can be chaotic.Let us take the illustrative example of cooking a family meal. In a nuclear family, the children often acquire the tastes of their parents, and even if these differ, it is easier to manage a single alternative than to cater to the tastes of a much larger, disparate bunch. If one makes a common meal for all, one ends up dissatisfying everyone; and if one wants to satisfy everyone, one has to keep cooking till kingdom come.
