Shastri Jayanti is celebrated on the birthday of Lal Bahadur Shastri so as to pay a tribute to him. The day is celebrated on 2nd October along with Gandhi Jayanti.

Lal Bahadur Shastri was the second Prime minister of India. He was born on 2nd October 1904 and died on 11th January 1966. he was one of the senior members of Indian National Congress. He was deeply influenced by the ideologies of Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru. It was during the war between India and Pakistan in 1965 that he gave his slogan “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan.”
