Short story on justice delayed is justice denied:
Justice delayed is justice denied is a legal adage implying that if legal redress is available for a person who has suffered some wrong-doings, however, is not forthcoming in a timely manner, it is effectively the same as having no redress at all:
Atharva possessed a little piece of land in his village. Around the corner of the field he had a small hut and he tilled the rest of the land raise a few crops. The crop was scarcely sufficient to maintain his family but helped his meager income considerably. A powerful person in the same village captured the land of Atharva and threatened him with dire consequences is Atharva resist or fights him. However, Atharva gathered courage and filed a case against his fellow villager. But, Atharva did not get justice immediately. He had to attend many hearings in the court, but came back only disappointed each time.
Moreover, the repeated dates for court hearings implied Atharva had to miss work and also had to spend huge amount of money on his lawyers and for travelling to and fro - from the court to his home and vice versa. The case prolonged for almost 10 years. It took its toll in the form of Atharva’s failing health and declining income. Because of a lack of good health care, Atharva's wife passed away. Somehow Atharva managed to arrange the wedding of his daughter. Today he does not have any physical strength and energy as well as financial resources to proceed with the court case. He was too poor to even fend for himself and had decided to give up the case. Atharva blamed his misfortune for his hardship. Soon, Atharva fell very sick and he lost all will to live. One fine day, the villagers found Atharva dead in his hut…. But Atharva was never able to reclaim his land till the last and did not get justice from the court too.
