R. K. Laxman (1921 – 2015) is the author of the short story, ‘A Snake in the Grass’. He is a famous Indian humourist and cartoonist.

It is the story of a lazy and dishonest gardener, named Dasa. Even in a dangerous situation like finding a snake in the garden, he tries to find reasons how it has come to be there and proving that it is not his fault. He makes no real effort to chase it away. He in fact, puts everyone’s life in danger, by lying that he saw it go away, when in fact he had not seen such a thing.
