Explanation:
One of the major problems faced by the world today is the lack of women’s participation in economic activities. When one half of the population is kept away from economic activities, the per capita income of the country decreases. This is the same as wasting half of the resources available in the world. If we are ready to give women an opportunity, they can contribute to the development of the country through their potential. This can happen only if we give women education, employment and opportunity to lead.
Education (Learning)
It prepares women for life in the world. It helps them to realise their potential. It helps them to acquire skills which are needed in the world. It initiates them into the workforce. This is all the more important in developing countries. Educating women is the same as educating families and by extension villages.
Employment (Labour)
Employment is necessary for women to contribute to the economy. But the problem is that they are often underpaid compared to their male counterparts. Even educated men and women earn differently. Removing gender bias in employment can boost the per capita income of the country. Legal reforms can ensure the safety and welfare of women at workplaces. Giving women access to property and ancestral inheritance can improve the economic status of women. Education and healthcare should also be ensured to women by legal and policy measures. Another important measure is to ensure loans for women so that entrepreneurship can be promoted.
Leadership
Women tend to do better than men in leadership. However they get far too less opportunities compared to men. Women are more compassionate and considerate compared to men in leadership positions. They respect other people’s opinions and include more people in leadership. Because of the lack of opportunities women lack the confidence although they have the ability to lead. At all levels women have to face a lot of obstacles before they can be successful.
The world will benefit from the growth and success of women if they are given a fair chance.
Stepping outside Comfort Zones
Traditional roles assigned to women do not let them utilise their full potential. However unless they come out of these comfort zones they can never truly bring out their best. For this, they have to venture into areas where women usually do not go.
