One of Dickens' best-known books, Oliver Twist, has been the subject of numerous stage and film adaptations. Oliver has been portrayed by a number of renowned actors, notably Sir Alec Guinness in 1948 and Mark Lester in 1968, who co-starred with Ron Moody as Fagin.

Given: Novel Oliver Twist

To find: Summary

Solution:

In a Victorian workhouse, the narrative starts. Young Oliver Twist is an orphan. He leads a terrible and lonesome life in the workhouse. Oliver joins the employ of an undertaker as an apprentice but leaves following a dispute with another trainee.

Jack, popularly known as the Artful Dodger, welcomes Oliver to London when he arrives and provides him a place to stay. Unfortunately, Jack and his crew are pickpockets who work for the dishonest career felon known as Fagin. Oliver is outraged and flees after witnessing the others pick the pocket of an elderly guy. Oliver is taken in and cared for by a gentle guy by the name of Mr. Brownlow.

Oliver's "happily ever after" is sadly cut short as Fagin and his gang resurface and seize him. Oliver is shot after being forced to take part in a robbery. Oliver is healed by a family they refer to as the Maylies. When he is well enough, they take him to see Mr. Brownlow, but they find his house abandoned since he has moved to the West Indies.

Oliver is still missing, despite the efforts of Fagin and his evasive partner Monks. Oliver has a nightmare where he sees them through his window, and one day he wakes up to find them staring at him. They flee before he can catch them when he sounds the alarm.

Nancy overhears Fagin and the Monks conversing. She determines it is imperative to inform Rose of what she knows. Nancy tells Rose the truth, revealing that Monks is Oliver's half-brother and has been attempting to harm him in order to obtain the entirety of his inheritance funds. Rose informs Mr. Brownlow, who goes to inform Oliver's other caregivers. In order to locate Monks, they believe they must see Nancy once more.

Nancy is supposed to meet them at a specific hour on London Bridge, but Fagin is suspicious and has dispatched Noah Claypole to watch her. Rose and Mr. Brownlow are given the location of Monks by Nancy, who still won't expose Fagin or Sikes.

All of the facts that Noah is aware of is shared with Fagin. Fagin then informs Sikes despite being aware that doing so will lead to Sikes attempting to murder her. Oliver's birth was not as genuine as it first seemed to be, according to Monks, who is found by Mr. Brownlow.

Sikes is attempting to flee, but he is being sought after. He died after falling off a skyscraper. After being detained and receiving a visit from Oliver, Fagin is put to death. Oliver, Mr. Brownlow, and the Maylies eventually settle down in a quiet English village.
