“To Sleep” is a poem through which the poet Wordsworth addresses directly to the sleep that very often eludes him. It sounds as if it is coming from an insomniac who knows the real value of sleep.

This poem has two different patterns and they contradict to each other. It is all about the poet's imagination in the first and second stanzas of the poem.

This is a tranquil and pastoral setting. However, the setting shifts from the poet’s mind to reality in the third and fourth stanzas. Here we sleep that the poet is quite anxious for he is not able to sleep peacefully.
