After all his top most priority was to make his wife smile every time and make her happy by doing whatever that pleases her. He understands his wife’s dilemma and giver her 400 francs to buy herself a new dress.
Once again Mme Loisel seemed disappointed because she had no beautiful jewellery to adorn herself with. So. Mr. Loisel tells her to pay a visit at Mme. Forestier’s house who was an old convent school of Mme Loisel. This woman was rich and offered a pretty elegant diamond necklace to her friend.
The Loisel’s enjoy the ball to their fullest until they realised that Mme Loisel had lost the necklace that she had borrowed. They look for it everywhere but they could not find it. It was written in their fate that they had to replace the lost one with a similar one. So they spent 36000 francs to buy a new one which looked similar to the lost one at the Palais Royal.
Mr. Loisel had to make numerous ruinous promises to loan lenders to buy the expensive necklace. They returned back the necklace to Mme Forestier. In order to replace the necklace the Loisel’s has to work monotonously all day and night to earn some money and repay the loan that they had withdrawn. They went through many hardships until this one day when the came to know that the lost necklace was not even worth 400 francs through Mme Forestier herself.

The time and all the hard-work take their toll on her and she ages quickly. After that tortuous period had passed she happens to meet her rich friend and tells the whole story. Her friend tells that it was not a diamond necklace but a cheap imitation jewelry.
