Echo is the bouncing back of sound waves after striking a distant object.

.) Now we know that ,

Speed = distance / time

.) Now in case of echo , sound has to cover double distance ie

Speed = 2* distance / time

Let speed = s

Distance = d

Time = t

.) Now in case of echo ,

s = 2*d / t

Now it is given that ,

s = 345 m/sec

t = 5 sec

Now ,

345 = 2*d / 5

d = 345 *5 / 2

d = 862.5m
