Children have a brain which is still in the stage of development. Ghost stories should be avoided for children because it may affect their mental health and also cause trauma. Since children are very imaginative, hearing stories about ghosts may affect their daily lifestyle.

For example: You told a child the story of Annabelle, then from that time on wards the child will relate every doll to be LIKE Annabelle, and hence, develop a trauma. It is even worse to tell children these stories at night.

Now, after all, I am not any psychologist and every child differs. This was just a general sketch on why children should not hear ghost stories.
