yes.... rote learning is never the answer. Instead, understanding and comprehensive education should be encouraged. Instead of sitting and mugging up the text book, activities should be carried out which helps the student to retain what is learnt and relate to it.

Teachers should stop insisting on rote learning, this is because rot learning is basically drilling. The much repetition a teacher makes proves the point that the learner is not good at the subject.

Though too much repetition sometimes aids in understanding a concept especially for beginners, but it should not be used for higher grade learners.
