Should the government make cuts to public spending in order to reduce the national debt

The government is spending too much money on public programs. This is draining the budget and increasing the national debt at an exponential rate. Cutting spending in this area would take pressure off of the country and help lower the national debt, rather than standing by as it goes up. The economy would not be significantly damaged by cutting public spending. People are still going to make and spend money, but the government will be less involved in providing certain services to the public. While it may not be ideal, it is necessary to lift our nation out of this debt crisis.
