Answer:

Resistance of voltmeter should be high.

Solution:

  • A voltmeter is always connected in parallel with a circuit since voltage remains constant in parallel connection.
  • However, when voltmeter is connected in parallel, some current of circuit might flow through voltmeter thus changing the current in circuit.
  • In order to avoid this, an ideal voltmeter has infinite resistance so that it opposes any kind of current flowing through it.
  • However, practically infinite resistance is not possible.
  • Hence, resistance of voltmeter should be as high as possible to avoid any error in current of circuit.

Explanation:

It is essential that the resistance RV of a voltmeter be very much larger than the resistance of any circuit element across which the voltmeter is connected. Otherwise, the meter alters the potential difference that is to be measured.
