The resistance of an ammeter should be Low.
Reason:
1. Ammeter is used to measure the current in a circuit and it should always be connected in series.
2. Resistance means the obstruction caused to the movements of electrons.
3. If resistance is more, current will be less.
4. So, if ammeter has a high resistance than the current measured will be quite less as compared to actual current which is undesirable.
5. If a ammeter has zero resistance , then we will get exact current in the circuit.
6. But such thing is not possible as every material in this world has some internal resistance.
Conclusion:
The resistance of an ammeter should be Low

It should be as close to zero as possible. Ideally it should be zero ohms. If it is non-zero and substantial it will affect the true current.
