- An ammeter should have low resistance. An ammeter is connected in series in an electric circuit to measure electric current. If its resistance is high, then the net resistance of the electric circuit will be less. As a result, ammeter will not read the actual value of the current in the circuit. If resistance of the ammeter is low, then the net resistance ofbthe circuit will not be affected much. Hence , the current in the circuit is not affected..
