The resistance of a voltmeter should be high. Mainly because if it is low, current would excessively pass through the device leading to burn of the voltmeter. Another thing that is probably to be there is that There would be a fluctuation/decrease in the current/Ampere of the Circuit as voltmeter's wires will have some sort of resistance which will decrease that current. To prevent these, voltmeter's resistance is always too much high so that minimal amount of current passes through it.
