Negative sign of ECT does not mean negative speed of adjustment, if it is statistically significant it shows how quickly the system comes to equilibrium. ... It should be negative, otherwise we will not return to equilibrium but move further and further away from equilibrium if we are in an a situation with disequilibrium.
