Thank you for asking the question.
In the last paragraph the author talk about the jack' dilemma that he faces. Jack is on the firm belief that parents are never wrong. However, when his daughter questions his ending to the story of Roger Skunk , he is forces to think about a second point of view leaving him in a in-between condition where he can't determine what to do know. In the lesson the phrase "half old tan and half new ivory " represents the in-between position in which jack was totally in.
i hope this will help you

In the last paragraph of Should Wizard Hit Mommy, we see that Jack is caught between playing the role of a caring husband and a doting father. One Saturday, he wants to help his pregnant wife with painting their furniture. He decides to do so by making his four-year old daughter Jo sleep after saying a story that he usually tells her. However, that day she is not sleepy and does not accept the story the way it is and wants it to end in a different way. She also interrupts the story with a lot of questions that he did not like. Jack was a person who believed that children should do what parents tell them to do. Parents must not be questioned. Similarly, he felt that men were also always superior to women.
Finally, when he goes down to help Clare with the painting, Jack finds that she is done with most of it. She also complains that Jack has taken a long time to tell Jo the story. Jack cannot accept the fact that she had started painting without waiting for him.
