Answer:

Aim: To show that double displacement reactions occur when a metal with higher reactivity is put in an solution of a metal with lower reactivity.

Chemicals required: Copper Sulphate, Ferrous Sulphate, Iron metal, Aluminium foil.

Procedure: Take a solution of CuSO_{4} in a beaker and put a block of Iron metal in it. Take another beaker and make a solution of Ferrous Sulphate and put Aluminium foil in it.

Observation: We can observe that the blue colour of the Copper Sulphate will change into a pale green colour due to the formation of Ferrous Sulphate by the following reaction:

CuSO_{4} + FeFeSO_{4} + Cu

We can also observe that the pale green colour of the Ferrous Sulphate solution will turn colourless due to the formation of Aluminium Sulphate by the following reaction:

FeSO_{4} + AlAl_{2}(SO_{4})_{3} + Al

Conclusion: We can conclude that double displacement reactions occur when a metal with higher reactivity is put in an solution of a metal with lower reactivity.
