Stock notation: presentation of oxidation number in molecular formula by presenting a roman number after the symbol

In HAuCl2: the stock notation is HAu(I)Cl2, as Au has varying valency the oxidation state in the compound is +1

In Ti2O: the stock notation is Tl2(I)O, Tl is a oxide and has oxidation state of +1

1) AuCl3
Here, valency of Au is +3 .
Hence, stock notation is Au(III)Cl3.

2) KMnO4 -
Here, valency of Mn is +7 .
Hence, stock notation is KMn(VII)O4.
