Dandi is an importance place to remember because during India’s struggle for independence, Gandhiji in this place itself broke his salt law. It was marked as a historical event because the entire nation under one single man plunged into the battle and cherished doctrines of non-violence and passive resistance. Gandhiji started the campaign from Sabarmati Ashram with 79 members on 12th March 1930 to Dandi where he broke British salt laws in 6th April, 1930.
Kheda is a district of Gujarat, where Gandhiji along with Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, organized a major revolt for India’s independence called the Kheda Satyagraha in 1918. Gandhiji organized this movement to support the peasants of the Kheda district, who were imposed heavy tax by the British Raj.
Ahmedabad Mill Strike was another remarkable movement undertaken by the Indians under the leadership of Gandhiji in March 1918. The strike took place in order to increase the wages of the mill workers and in this movement; Gandhiji used the weapon of Hunger Strike for the first time but in a non-violent way. The strike was successful and the workers’ wages was increased by 35%.
Bardoli Satyagraha (1928) took place under the leadership of Vallabhbhai Patel due to the increase in land revenue by 22%. The peasants of Bardoli refused to pay the revised assessment until an independent tribunal is appointed for the same. The outcome of the Satyagraha was that, British Government reduced land revenue to 6.03% and returned the seized land back to the farmers.
