Chemically , when Quick lime ( calcium oxide) is added to water (dihydrogen oxide) , the following reaction takes place :-

CaO (s) + H20 (l) →Ca(OH)2 + energy

Here , Slaked lime (calcium hydroxide) is formed with liberation of heat.

Hence , the process is a combination and exothermic reaction.
