When we connect two resistance of the same value in parallel the equivalent
resistance will be half of their value which is 4.5 ohms. By putting
9 ohms resistance in series with this combination will give us
9+4.5=13.5ohms
In the lower figure when we put two resistors in series, their equivalent
resistance will be 18 ohms which is parallel with 9 ohm resistance.
Requivalent=(18)(9)/9+18=6ohms
