let 2 root 2 is a rational number and we can write in the form of p / q and q is not equal to zero.

2root 2 = p/q

root 2 = p/2q

hence , p/2q is a rational number but root 2 is an irrational number so our assumption is wrong due to some contradiction 2root2 is an irrational number.
