A conservative force is a force that has the property of work done in moving a particle between two points and is independent of the path taken.

Gravitational force is conservative because the work done by the gravitational force onan object depends on the change in height.

Work done along any given closed path in segments can be summarised as total work done directly from moving from one point to directly another point.
