We know that the area of a rectangle is l*b. Let the length of the rectangle= b and breadth = a. When a diagonal is made, since diagonals of rectangle divide the rectangle into equal halves, the area enclosed by the triangle formed due to diagonal would be 1/2 of area of rectangle.

Area of rectangle= l*b= a*b

Area of triangle= 1/2 area of rectangle= 1/2a*b

Hence proved
