Show that oxidation and reduction go side by side

Indeed oxidation and reduction go side by side. Taking an example,

2Na(s) + Cl2(g)------> 2NaCl(s)

Here Na loses electrons and gets oxidised and Cl gains the same electrons to be reduced. So, both oxidation and reduction occur simultaneously in a given reaction.

Hope it helps

Answer:

Explanation:

Oxidation and reduction takes place side by side and they are reversible reaction.

One species is oxidized and the other species is reduced. The electrons released by one species are accepted by other species.

For example in the reaction: Cu

2+

+Zn⇌Cu+Zn

2+

, Zn is oxidized to Zn

2+

 and Cu

2+

 is reduced to Cu.
