As we know value √5 lies between 2 and 3 so draw a line segment starts from zero To 3 or 4 now mark point zero as O

and represent 2 as A , draw a perpendicular AX at A on the number line and cut off arc AC = 1 unit

Here OA = 2 units AC = 1 unit

Now using Pythagoras theorem

OC² = OA² + AC²

OC² = (2)² + (1)²

OC² = 5

OC = √5
