Explanation:

Weight on moon =G×M×m/R^2-------- eq :-1

weight on earth=G×100M×m/(4R)^2

= G×100M×m/16R^2

now, dividing equation first by equation second, we get:-

Weight of moon /weight of earth=G×M×m×16R^2/R^2×G×100×m

=weight of moon / weight of earth = 16/100

=weight of moon / weight of earth=1/6

hence, the weight on moon is = 1/6 weight on earth.

PROVED.

(a) The acceleration due to gravity on the moon is about one-sixth of that on the earth. (b) In order to the force of gravitation between two bodies to become noticeable and cause motion, one of the bodies must have an extremely large mass.
