Show that the equation 2x^2-5x-4=0 has real and unreal roots.

b²-4ac > 0

here a=2 , b= -5 and c = -4

=> (-5)²-4*2*(-4)

=> 25 - (-32)

=> 25 + 32

=> 57 which is > 0

hence the given equation has real and unequal roots
