so, it has already been perfectly proved above that the function f(x) = (2x - 1) is one one.

now we come to onto. If we give only one contradictory example we will be able to prove that the function is not onto.

now. the relation is from N to N. thus every natural number in co-domain should be image of one natural number in domain.

Take number 2 in the co-domain i.e. range,

2 € N , so 2 should be image for some x in domain

so that 2x - 1 = 2

2x = 2+1 = 3

x = 3/2

but 3/2 is not natural number. thus there is no x in domain for which 2 is an image. thus 2 is not image of any x in domain. hence the function is not onto
