Show that the point P(-4,2) lies on the line segment joining the points A(-4,6) and B(-4,-6

Slope of the line joining the points A and B

⇒ m₁ = (y₂ - y₁)/(x₂ - x₁)

⇒ m₁ = (-6 - 6)/(-4 + 4)

⇒ m₁ = -12/0 = ∞

Now ,

To check whether a point P(-4, 2) is lies on the line segment AB or not .

We find the slope of line segment AP.

⇒m₂ = (2 - 6)/(-4 + 4)

⇒m₂ = -4/0 = ∞

⇒m₂ = ∞

since,  m₁ = m₂.

And hence Point 'P' lies on the line segment AB.
