A distance time graph has distance on its y axis and time on its X axis. Let D1 and D2 be distance covered by an object at time T1 and T2.
Slope of graph =
  \frac{y2 - y1}{x2 - x1}
substituting values for x1, x2, y1, y2
 \frac{d2 -d1 }{t2 - t1}
now, this is change in distance upon change in time which is speed.
 \frac{dx}{dt}
hence it is so.

(The slope of distance time graph gives speed whereas slope of displacement time graph gives velocity)

Explanation:

In a distance time graph, take any two points on the slope.

Say suppose... x1 and x2

From its coordinates we get t1 and t2 ...

Now with the formula of slope we get.. x2 - x1/ t2- t1

So x2 - x1 = d ( distance )

And t2 - t1 = t (time)

So the final formula will be..

d/t which is speed... ( d/t = v )

Hence , slope of distance time graph gives speed of the object.
