If x(a) is a factor of p(x) then p(a) = 0.

So to show (x-1) is a factor of the polynomial x*x*x +3(x*x) -x-3,
We have to show
p(1) = 0.

p(1) = 1^3 + 3(1)^2 - 1 - 3
= 1+3 - 4
= 0.

Hope it's helpful to u.

yes it is a factor
x3+3x2-x-3 ÷ (x-1)=x2+4x+3
