If (x-1) is a factor then
x-1 =0
or x=1
therefore ,
p(x) = x3-2x^2 -x- 2
putting x =1
(1)^3 + 2.(1)^2 -1 -2
on solving this we get : 0
therefore, (x-1) is a factor.
Hope this helps .
